What YC is looking for

A specific problem, evidence that people want it solved, and a team that moves fast. Traction helps but is not required. A working product demo helps a great deal.

One minute, founders on camera, no slides. Say what you do in the first sentence. Be direct and be yourselves.

Common mistakes from the region

Describing the market instead of the product. Overstating the size of the opportunity without showing early users. Applying with a team that is not yet full time.

Alternatives worth knowing

Google for Startups Accelerator Africa, Techstars, Antler, regional programmes run by development funders and the growing number of local angel syndicates. Each has a different appetite for stage and sector.
